About the Inspector General of Water Compliance

Our client, the Inspector General of Water Compliance (IGWC), is an independent Commonwealth statutory authority that sits within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water Portfolio. The IGWC ensures government bodies, water managers and users in the Murray-Darling Basin comply with their obligations under the Water Act 2007 and the Basin Plan 2012 and drives governments and water managers to uphold high standards of integrity and performance.

The IGWC currently has offices located in Albury, Mildura, Dubbo, Goondiwindi, Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. They have 58 staff currently and have big plans for growth over the next two years. Working for a small agency like IGWC means that every person’s efforts have a significant impact on the outcomes of the organisation.

The Opportunity

There is an opportunity for an EL1 Risk Specialist to join the Strategy and Governance Team. This is a 6–9-month non-ongoing contract where you’ll take ownership of the risk function with IGWC and lead a significant program of reform relating to enterprise risk identification, management and mitigation.

This is an opportunity to join a small team where you’ll have a high level of decision-making power. The work you’ll do will make an impact on a $14 million Basin Plan. You’ll enjoy flexibility in a hybrid environment with ample ability to work from home. There is the potential to secure the role permanently at the end of the contract period.

The Role

The main deliverables of the role will be to:

• Review and implement an enterprise risk management framework that is specific to the Inspector-General of Water Compliance, in alignment with the overarching risk framework of Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
• Update all strategic and operational risk registers in consultation with staff and the executive leadership team, including leading risk workshops and improving risk culture across the organisation
• Start the process of reviewing the Inspector-General’s Strategic Plan (in relation to risk)

The Ideal Person

The ideal person will have end to end risk management experience in a Commonwealth Government environment. You’ll also have:

• Comprehensive enterprise risk management expertise – ability to design, implement, and oversee risk management processes, including developing and maintaining corporate and strategic risk registers
• Risk identification and mitigation – identify and analyse risks in the working environment identifying solutions to address these risks, including developing, reviewing and/or updating processes, tools and systems
• High-Level Communication Abilities – skilled in preparing statutory publications, reports, and advice on strategy and risk, as well as providing actionable recommendations for governance improvements and business process enhancements
• Problem solving skills – show initiative and originality in working with complex issues and applying innovative techniques to suggest a range of potential solutions to problems

To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian citizen and be willing to undergo a National Police Check.

Salary / Rate

• $124k to $134k + 15.4% Super
• 6-9 month non-ongoing contract
• Candidate can be located in Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide
