About the role:

The Jalbu Integrated Women’s Health Hub – South Cairns has been established under Wuchopperen Health Service as part of the Queensland Government’s Women’s and Girl’s Health Strategy. The Hub provides women and girls access to health and health related care and support through a safe women friendly space with the simplicity of service navigation, provision of flexible holistic care, and free services provided by a diverse workforce.

The Registered Nurse will work with clinical staff to increase the uptake of Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Items including Health Assessments, Immunisation rates for target populations. The position is responsible for supporting the delivery of effective screening, assessment and follow up services.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide appropriate registered nurse level care to clients attending the Integrated Women’s Health Hub. These may include but are not limited to:•

1. Triage – Telephone/ Front Desk / Treatment room
2. Identify and assess and manage the urgent needs of clients, including emergency treatment
3. Therapeutic care and treatment
4. Wound management and dressings
5. Venipunctures
6. Diagnostic services
7. Clinical data management
8. Home visiting support
9. Client advocacy
10. Client recall
11. Chronic disease management

• Perform nursing and clinical procedures competently, in accordance with qualifications and scope of practice.
• Provide immunisations, incorporating education and support with appropriate recall and follow-up.
• Comply with legislation, policies, procedures and protocols to achieve and maintain evidence based safe and effective practice in primary health care, with a focus on promotion, prevention and early identification.
• Perform day to day support of the clinical activities of Health Workers, Registered and Enrolled Nurses.
• Responsible for the maintenance of quality assurance systems in accordance with Accreditation standards and internal and external protocols.
• Perform the implementation of strategies aimed at increasing the uptake of Medicare EPC Items.
• Perform the maintenance of safe effective medical stock control systems, including the storage and dispensing of pharmaceuticals in accordance with Accreditation standards and internal and external protocols.
• Participate in organisational and community activities to advance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Work within Wuchopperen’s Policies and Procedures including the Staff Code of Conduct and the Work Health and Safety requirements and contribute to continuous improvement processes to ensure compliance with relevant standards and safe, effective service delivery.
• Other duties as required, within your skills, experience and capacity.

Core Capabilities:

For applicants to be successful in this role, they should demonstrate:

1. Demonstrated ability to deliver evidence based clinical and primary health care, together with an understanding of the concept of community controlled primary health care.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of diverse cultures of target populations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures from a historical and contemporary perspective, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with people from a culturally diverse background.
3. Demonstrated history of providing high levels of clinical and non-clinical care to all clients, to ensure all aspects of the client’s health needs are maintained and accurately recorded.
4. Extensively developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders as well as effectively advocate for clients who are culturally diverse people.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment, prioritise and meet deadlines, deal with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
6. Demonstrated ability to meet and work within the core values and behaviours of Wuchopperen.

Qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor of Nursing degree with demonstrated experience in a similar setting.

Requirements:

• It is a condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) and hepatitis B
• It is recommended for the employee to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
• The Registered Nurse must have current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and preferably with Immunisation Endorsement.
• Proof of qualifications and current registration is required to be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
• Possession of a current CPR certificate or commitment to obtain within the first six weeks of employment is essential.
• Possession of a current Queensland “CA” class driver’s licence is essential.
• Commitment to work within the principles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control including a willingness to develop the leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.
• Ability to use Microsoft products and the ability to use or willingness to gain proficiency in the client information management systems.
• Hold a current Blue Card (for suitability to work with children and young people).
• A commitment to adhere to Wuchopperen’s policies and procedures.
