About the role
The Water Operations team is seeking an enthusiastic & experienced Water Operations Engineer who is passionate about the supply of Drinking Water (DW) and Non-Drinking Water (NDW) to our customers, ensuring they receive water, which is safe, pleasant, and reliable. As a Water Operations Engineer you will undertake engineering activities relating to the operation and optimisation of DW & NDW reticulation networks, pump stations, chlorinators and reservoirs, while being supported by the team to continue to develop your engineering & professional capability.

We do this through high quality asset management practices, operational resilience, great partnerships, and highly responsive customer service delivery.
Your key responsibilities
- Engineering support and guidance to Network & Field Operators and maintenance contractors.
- Perform engineering investigations into network performance, water quality and operational issues, working closely with Network Operators to implement changes.
- Develop and implement opportunities for improved water quality performance and to manage water quality risk (in partnership with our lab partners), including performing the daily water quality exceedance management and response.
- Scoping and project management of minor mechanical or electrical capital works and network system improvements.
- Ongoing improvement of our emergency response plans through a lessons management framework.
- Ongoing involvement in preparation, response and recovery for incident management of water-related emergencies (utilising AIIMS as a framework).
- Undertake field investigations and support field work, across YVW service area, as needed
- Lead the adoption of operational technology improvements within the Water Operations team (such as Operational Historian).
What we're looking for
You are an enthusiastic engineer who can quickly build positive relationships and utilise prior operations experience to make an immediate positive difference for our customers. If you have the following skills, get in touch:
- Qualification in Engineering or equivalent with eligibility for admission as a Corporate Member of the Institute of Engineers, Australia (Mandatory).
- Valid Victorian Driver's License and Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- A minimum two years' experience in water supply network or treatment operations, with a strong understanding of network operational principles, water quality, hydraulics and the application of engineering analysis techniques.
- An ability to interpret water quality analytic results & performing water quality risks assessments.
- An understanding of basic principles of water quality instruments, analysers, and laboratory techniques.
- Proficient with Asset Management systems (e.g. Maximo), SCADA Monitoring (ClearSCADA), GIS and water quality risk management (e.g. HACCP).
- Confidence in undertaking field work and troubleshooting unsupervised, while at water supply or treatment asset sites (e.g., pump stations, water reservoirs, chlorinators, treatment plants)
- A positive safety & wellbeing attitude, including experience with developing operating procedures and hazard reporting.
- Willingness to join the After-Hours Water Quality Advisor Duty Roster (up to 1 in 5 Week rotation)
- An ability to work with and influence a diverse team involving engineers and network operators.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong use of computers and related technology for data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, electronic communications, and analysis tasks.

- This full-time role is classified as an Engineer Level 2.1-2.5 at a salary of $100,243.98 to $116,951.21 per annum dependent on experience, plus superannuation
- Senior Engineer classification would also be conisdered for exceptional applicants who also meet eligibility criteria (up to $135,329.40 + super)
