Australian Locating Services (ALS) is a leading utility locating and surveying company with over 30 years of industry expertise. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service using the latest technology in the locating, CCTV, and surveying industries. Our team carries multiple accreditations, ensuring all locating is carried out to Australian Standards AS5488-2022 .
Due to consistent growth across Greater Sydney, Wollongong, the Central Coast, and Newcastle, we are seeking a Senior Utility Locator to join our experienced team.
About the Role
As a Senior Utility Locator, you will lead and deliver high-quality locating services across a range of sites and environments. This hands-on role requires a mix of fieldwork, technical skills, and client communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately locate underground utilities using EMF, GPR, and concrete scanning equipment.
Read and interpret plans, including Before You Dig (BYDA) and aerial imagery.
Communicate findings clearly to clients and on-site personnel.
Prepare maps, reports, and associated documentation.
Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with relevant standards (AS5488).
Take the lead on small to medium-sized jobs, while contributing to larger projects as part of a team.
About You
We’re looking for someone with a strong technical background, who enjoys working outdoors and solving problems in the field.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
CertLoc (DBYD) Certified Locator – minimum 3 years certified, 5 years industry experience
Deep understanding of AS5488 standards
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Physically capable and comfortable with fieldwork
Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in a team
Willingness to travel regionally or work flexible hours when required
Manual Driver’s Licence (required)
Construction White Card - Construction General Induction (required)
National Police Check (or ability to obtain it before starting)
WWCC - Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain it before starting)
Highly Regarded Qualifications (desirable but not essential):
RIW, WPCG, or ESI training
Gas test atmospheres
TfNSW Workers on Foot
Confined space entry
Vacuum excavation operation
Sewer/stormwater inspection
High-pressure water jetting
RIICCM202D – Identify, Locate, and Protect Underground Services
