Reporting to the Senior Officer, Community Safety, the Community Safety Officer is responsible for delivering services to make the City of Tea Tree Gully a safe place for people and animals.
Key responsibilities include:
Undertake Council’s various statutory responsibilities, including educating residents, providing advice and assistance to both internal and external clients as they relate to Community Safety.
Undertake major and complex investigations specific to Community Safety and provide timely and accurate reports.
Under general direction, the role is accountable for facilitating compliance with the relevant Acts and By-laws which includes: The Local Government Act, Council By-Laws, Private Parking Areas Act, Australian Road Rules, Environment Protection (Burning) Policy, Dog and Cat Management Act, Fire & Emergency Services Act, Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act and Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act.
Undertake a range of audit, inspection, surveillance activities, detection and enforcement strategies to minimise non-compliance, including the duties of an authorised officer pursuant to relevant Acts and legislation.
Undertake a range of administrative and follow up activities relating to compliance matters such as ensuring compliance with relevant licences and permits, preparation of reports to support legal proceedings, maintenance of records of actions taken etc.

About you
You will hold a Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or previous experience as a General Inspector or similar regulatory services role.
Understanding or accreditation of animal behaviour and/or management.
Working understanding of Fire Prevention practices.
You will be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical and police check.
Occasional out of hours work may be required.

Salary range is between $81,312- $87,253 plus superannuation guarantee and will be negotiated commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications.
