The Team:

  • This is an opportunity to work in the Acute Care Team or Community Mental Health Continuing Care Teams Clarence or Glenorchy.

The Role:

Working alongside the multidisciplinary team use lived and recovery experience to support the care-planning and delivery of person centred, recovery orientated and trauma informed care, in accordance with National Standards for Mental Health Services, Agency policies and procedures, legal requirements.

The Family/Carer Peer Worker, under the direction and supervision of the Community Mental Health Service Team Leader/Manager, and within the defined scope of duties for the role, will:

  • Uphold the Lived Experience values and principles to encourage a recovery-focused, person-centred, and strengths-based approach to all aspects of work.
  • Use personal experience to support the families and carers of public mental health services’ consumers/clients/patients, to maintain their health and wellbeing while caring for those with mental illness.
  • Work positively and collaboratively with families and carers to identify supports to facilitate meaningful recoveries for the family and to foster hope.

You will need:

  • Provide support to families and carers of people receiving support from public mental health services, in identifying appropriate supports (community resources and services) and ensuring families and carers are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and participate in discussions with a focus on family/carer rights and responsibilities, quality improvement initiatives, planning and problem solving in line with mental health and recovery frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and relevant Lived Experience networks.

Demonstrated understanding or the capability to understand mental health, and other relevant legislation.

Details of appointment: Operational Health Officer, Level 3

Multiple permanent full time and part time, day worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Location: Hobart (ACT), Glenorchy or Rosny Park (Clarence CCT).

Salary: $67,193 to $72,126 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Experience of supporting someone (family or friend) through mental health challenges, service use, periods of healing/personal recovery
