Qualifications & experience

The successful candidate must:

Have a minimum of 3 years post admission experience in criminal law.

A thorough understanding of criminal law procedure.

Be able to undertake bail applications, sentences, and defended hearings and have experience doing so.

Be able to autonomously take carriage of criminal law matters from start to finish.

Have excellent writing skills and be able to draft legal representations and written submissions.

Be able to attend to negotiations with the prosecution, including in case conferences.

Instruct counsel in complex trials and sentences.

A passion for criminal law and a genuine desire to work as a criminal lawyer is a must.

Tasks & responsibilities

Take carriage of a diverse range of criminal law matters from start to finish, including summary matters, indictable matters, and complex matters.

Appear in sentences, defended hearings and bail applications in all jurisdictions.

Instruct counsel in complex criminal law matters.

Negotiate matters with prosecuting authorities.

Manage clients.
