About the Position
Newington College has an entry-level opportunity for a motivated Apprentice Greenkeeper to join our Grounds Department on a permanent full-time basis.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with our Turf management team to complete a variety of tasks. These include but are not limited to:
- Preparing cricket wickets for training and play.
- Preparing and marking rugby and football fields for training and match days.
- Operating various equipment, including mowers, rollers, hand tools, etc.
- Maintaining and programming irrigation.
- Applying fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides.
The ordinary working hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with possible Saturday work with sufficient notice in advance. One of these days will be spent studying a Cert III in Turf Management at TAFE NSW. Staff will be provided with uniforms and personal protective equipment.

About You
No prior experience in greenkeeping is required. However, it would be expected that the successful candidate will:
- have experiences in greenkeeping or completed relevant certificates within the field
- enjoy working outdoors and be capable of physical work
- demonstrate ability and willingness to follow instructions, observe, listen, and learn
- demonstrate ability to operate under supervision and work within a team to achieve high-quality work
- demonstrate knowledge/experience in inspecting, maintaining, and reporting on all areas associated with sports fields, including irrigation, turf, plant & equipment
- demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
- demonstrate ability to work autonomously in an efficient and safe manner
- demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve with a professional approach
- understand and adhere to the College’s Child Safeguarding policies and practices
- hold a valid driver's license and white card
- hold a valid or be willing to obtain a Working with Children Clearance upon commencement.
- Understand and adhere to the College’s Child Safeguarding policies and practices.
