About Your Project and Team:
The Genome Informatics group, in collaboration with the Medical Genomics group has received funding (GUARDIANS) to create a system for securely sharing genomics data with local, national and international researchers.
You would be joining a team of 8 professionals with expertise in informatics and genomics. In addition to research projects such as GUARDIANS, to which this position belongs, the Genome Informatics group also manages all high-performance computing for the Institute which includes a cluster with 2500 cores and 16 PB disk which is used by approximately 250 QIMR researchers.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
Applications are invited for a Linux Systems Administrator to lend their expertise to the GUARDIANS project.
You will be required to:
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Rocky, CentOS, ubuntu) and storage arrays.
- Install, configure, and maintain backing distributed file system.
- Perform system upgrades, patches, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and security.
- Automate routine tasks using scripts or other configuration management tools.
- Apply patches and updates to the hardware and software systems to maintain system security and compliance.
- Manage user accounts, access levels, roles, and security protocols in collaboration with QIMRB informatics staff.
- Liaise with software and hardware technical support for issue resolution and technical guidance.
- Ensure data integrity, backup schedules, and disaster recovery procedures are in place and effective.
- Collaborate with development, network, and security teams within QIMRB and across GUARDIANS partner organisations to ensure systems align with organisational and project policies and goals.
- Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, procedures, and infrastructure changes.
- Provide end-user training and support to ensure effective use of the sharing system.
About you:
To succeed in this role, you will have a degree in information technology, computational biology or relevant field; or possess an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. You will have proven experience in the administration of Linux systems, including web services, and in programming tasks in scripting language. Your expertise in large scale data processing and management, along with your ability to work both independently and collaboratively, will be key to your success.

Remuneration: Salary range is $124,169 to $133,890 p.a. plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a full-time, fixed term appointment until 31 December 2026.
