Relationships Australia WA (RAWA) is a leading provider of relationship support services to the West Australian community with professional and highly motivated staff. RAWA is also the lead agency for headspace Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River.
About the role
RAWA are seeking a permanent Counsellor to join the headspace Margaret River team.
The Counsellors role is to provide clinical services to young people aged 12 – 25 years and their family and friends either in individual sessions or in groups. As one of the first contact points for young people accessing headspace Margaret River, the Counsellor will need to build a positive rapport with a wide range of young people, as well as their family and friends. The Counsellor will be skilled in assessing a young person’s needs, they will undertake the headspace psychosocial assessment and risk assessments when necessary and, they will have the ability to action a plan to mitigate any identified risk.
Skills, experience, and qualifications
Qualifications
Essential
Approved Tertiary level qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or relevant field with general registration with AHPRA or AASW.
Desirable
Post graduate qualifications in an area related to youth mental health.
Essential
• Clinical skills in engaging young people aged 12 to 25 who have mental health, alcohol and other drug problems and their families/carers.
• Ability to relate to and engage with health professionals and to work as part of a multidisciplinary team as well as independently.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
· Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
· Knowledge, skill and experience involving young people in their own care.
· Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
· The ability to work with culturally diverse and marginalised young people and their families.
Desirable
· A broad understanding of the challenges and experiences of young people in Australia, including specific community factors.
Personal Attributes
· High levels of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion.
· Positive, collaborative and supportive team player with a desire to learn.
· The ability to effectively deal with conflict
· Adaptability and flexibility to changing work environments and requirements.
· Take responsibility for own actions, accept constructive feedback and advice and act on it.
· Effectively manage work experienced as stressful and seek advice and support in a timely and appropriate manner.
