THE OPPORTUNITY
Salary: $74,742 - $80,407 per annum pro rata + 11.5% super + leave loading (dependent on qualifications and experience).
Time Fraction: Full Time, 1.0 EFT.
Location: Waverley, Chadstone, Moorabbin Campuses – onsite parking and close proximity to public transport.
Position Status: Fixed-Term Contract until February 2026.
In this role, you will work closely with students and teachers in Vocational College to proactively identify and support young people who may be “at risk,” providing holistic assistance to improve student wellbeing and retention. You will advocate for students facing welfare, behavioural, developmental, social, and protection-related challenges, ensuring they receive the support they need. A key focus of the role is supporting and promoting re-engagement and alternate education programs, including SWITCH, the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), and the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). The SWITCH program is designed for 15–16-year-old students seeking a fresh start in a more supportive, non-traditional learning environment. You will play an active role in raising awareness of SWITCH within schools and support services, driving student recruitment and encouraging broader program participation.
ABOUT YOU
- Diploma of Youth Work, Community Services or similar tertiary qualification in a relevant field and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience of engaging with student groups and individuals, including an understanding of their environment and its stresses.
- Proven time management, organisational and administrative skills including the ability to coordinate concurrent activities, effectively prioritise work tasks and work to ongoing deadlines.
- Well-developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and liaise effectively with clients
- Demonstrated self-motivation with a proven ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality and work cooperatively and flexibly in a team environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of vocational education and training which informs the provision of support services for students.
- Ethical professional practices and standards. An understanding of case management processes in the provision of student support services would be an advantage.
- Experience in an educational environment, or similar, is preferred with an emphasis on student issues and the provision of appropriate support services.
