About the Role
Mornington Peninsula Shire is seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Commercial Manager – Maintenance Contracts (CAMS) to lead the strategic management of high-value maintenance contracts. These contracts provide critical services across a diverse portfolio of assets, including roads, stormwater, open space, and waste management over a three-year fixed term contract.
This senior role, reporting to the Manager – Infrastructure Services, will be instrumental in driving contract performance, optimising service delivery, and ensuring alignment with Council’s strategic objectives. The position plays a critical role in supporting the Shire’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and long-term community value through effective commercial leadership within the Assets & Infrastructure Division
Core responsibilities include:
• Overseeing the commercial and contract management of high-value and high-risk contracts
• Developing and implementing contract management strategies to achieve Council's service delivery goals and other objectives including industry leading sustainability and local procurement outcomes
• Monitoring contractor performance, managing relationships, and negotiating variations and claims
• Providing market insights to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement initiatives
• Providing commercial leadership and expertise in planning contract strategy and management
• Being a subject matter expert for commercial contract management at Council
About You
To be successful, you will require:
• Proven experience in managing complex contracts, preferably in infrastructure or related sectors
• Relevant qualifications in Business Management or Contract Management, with experience in maintenance and infrastructure desirable
• Previous experience in government contract management is highly regarded
• Strong knowledge of contract management principles and Australian contract law
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport with stakeholders
• Leadership abilities, capable of influencing decision-making processes and coaching team members in commercial contract management approaches
• Ability to effectively engage a variety of stakeholders and coach others to enhance and champion team development

About Mornington Peninsula Shire
The Mornington Peninsula is located just over an hour’s drive away from the city, on Melbourne’s ‘doorstep’, and is often described as Melbourne’s playground. It is the most popular informal recreation area in Victoria.
