About the Service
Centrecare Incorporated and Wungening Aboriginal Corporation have established a metropolitan wide partnership in delivering Youth Justice Services aimed at providing the best possible outcomes for at risk young people and the West Australian community. This exciting partnership offers a range of significant benefits including:

  • An integrated and coordinated network of quality Youth Justice Services based at Wungening in Mirrabooka (the North Hub) but managed from Centrecare in Gosnells (the South Hub).
  • A uniform approach to service delivery in the area of rehabilitation and emotional wellbeing for young people and their families referred to the service in the metropolitan area.

About the role
This is a maximum term full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, worked over 5 days. The rotating roster being Monday to Friday and Tuesday to Saturday. Hours will be either 9am to 5pm or 10am to 6pm. Saturday hours when rostered on are 9:00am – 5:00pm.
As a Youth Worker in this fully integrated team of innovative agencies you will play an integral role in providing high quality intake, assessment, and support services for young people and their family’s participating in the BeyondYJS Service. This will involve outreach services to young people at their place of living in the community or in custody. The aim of this initiative is to:

  • Divert young people away from the criminal justice system;
  • Provide programs and services for young people on orders in the community;
  • Provide programs and services for young people in custody; and
  • Increase public safety

This multi-faceted role will provide you with plenty of opportunity for variety in your work as well as the challenge of being part of an exciting program. In addition to supporting young people to lead productive, law-abiding lives in the community.
You will also be activity engaging with the wider community on a regular basis, liaising with the Department of Justice, service providers providing Youth Justice Services and other services to source and secure options and outcomes for young people participating in this program.
Selection Criteria

  • Recognised tertiary qualification in either Aboriginal Service Delivery, Community Development, Social Work, Social Sciences, Youth Work and related disciplines or equivalent OR Substantial experience in the relevant areas.
  • 1-2 years' experience in social services sector (Level 4 role)
  • 3 -5 years' experience in social services sector (Level 5 role)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally secure work practices when working with Aboriginal people and with people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds.
  • Relevant experience in providing rehabilitation and emotional wellbeing services in youth work, youth diversion, general counselling, group facilitation, family support and/or youth counselling.
  • Understanding of criminogenic factors of youth offending.
  • Experience in Youth and Adult Justice – e.g. Prison, and Detention Centres.
  • Well-developed communication skills, written and verbal.
