Youth Empowered Towards Independence (YETI) is a not-for-profit youth service based in Cairns Far North Queensland. YETI provides drug and alcohol treatment, adolescent-focused family support and practical assistance to young people who might be struggling to make positive connections with family, school, jobs and the community. YETI has 65 staff and is a friendly workplace that embraces cultural and gender diversity and equality.

YETI is seeking expressions of interest for case management roles in our New North Queensland Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs Services (NQYAODS) Team. The NQYAODS Program is an exciting and innovative regional service will provide residential and community-based alcohol and drug treatment to young people in the region (and adjoining regions).

This Role will have a strong focus on support harm reduction and supporting young people to navigate pathways into rehabilitation, while providing interim case coordination and psychosocial support during entry and exit transitions.

You will be part of a team that provides intake and assessment, therapeutic case management, crisis intervention and outreach support to vulnerable young people with diverse and complex needs, significant trauma backgrounds and often, high risk-taking behaviours.

Utilising a range of activity-based outreach and therapeutic interventions and supports, you will motivate, empower and support clients to:

Reduce, cease or become safer with their Alcohol and Drug (AOD) use.

Supporting access to residential rehabilitation.

Work closely with multiple agencies and cultural supports to provide integrated care.

Ensure service delivery is responsive to the cultural identity, strengths, and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Maintain/develop positive familial and personal relationships, a sense of community connectedness, good health and wellbeing.

Further develop social engagement, participation and general life skills, increase self-reliance and independence.

Selection Criteria

Demonstrated skills and experience providing assessment, case management, crisis intervention and outreach supports to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, utilising a range of activity based and therapeutic interventions.

An understanding of best practice standards, harm minimisation and empowerment philosophies, and the ability to analyse complex problems and provide interventions that maximize a young person’s strengths, capabilities, and integrity in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner.

Highly developed de-escalation and co-regulation skills and experience in effectively managing young people with challenging behaviours.

Experienced in using the Microsoft suite of products, internet platforms and client information databases, namely SRS/Infoxchange.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and culture, and an understanding of the diverse circumstances and issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Requirements

Tertiary and/or vocational qualification/s in a relevant discipline, and at least 2 years experience working with disadvantaged and vulnerable young people within the AOD service sector.

Eligibility for a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.

A current unrestricted Qld driver’s licence.
