About the Role
St Michael’s Collegiate School is seeking a dynamic and energetic educator to join our team as an Experiential Learning and PE Teacher.
This is a leave replacement position for Semester 2, 2025 teaching 3 days (0.583 FTE) per week (Monday to Wednesday).
This unique role includes teaching two Physical Education classes, co-teaching an outdoor education elective and leading the planning and delivery of elements of our K–12 experiential learning programs, including junior and middle school activities and camps.
With a strong emphasis on place-based and transdisciplinary education, the successful candidate will champion student-centred teaching practices — with a particular focus on environmental education and marine environments.
A component of the role involves leading students on multiday offsite experiences (approx. 6-8 nights per term).
Working closely with the Director of Experiential Learning, the Head of HPE/Sport and a passionate team of colleagues, the ideal candidate will be collaborative, values-driven, and eager to contribute meaningfully to the mission and culture of our school.
What we’re looking for (selection criteria)
To be considered for this role you will:
Be a registered Teacher (or eligible for registration) with the Teachers Registration Board of Tasmania
Hold a Bachelor of Education, Human Movement, Outdoor Education, Environmental Science or similar
Be passionate about working with young people and the have the ability to engage and challenge them in a dynamic learning environment
Demonstrate competency in a leading a range of outdoor learning activities, including relevant first aid and safety certifications.
Possess a high level of knowledge and practical experience of contemporary classroom teaching practices and pastoral care
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of current educational matters, including the Australian Curriculum (learning areas, cross curricula priorities and general capabilities)
Have developed classroom management skills and be dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment
Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to interact effectively with a range of school community members
Be familiar with using technology to enhance teaching and learning
