The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Allied Health Operations team provide direct clinical services, contracted Allied Health professional services, programs, and care coordination support to IUIH and its member organizations. The primary focus is to improve access to a broad range of health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through inter-professional collaboration and partnerships with local stakeholders and organizations.
To provide rehabilitation program services and supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members in SEQ.

About the Role?
The position is responsible for specialist cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation nursing services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with cardiac conditions. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure effective screening, service delivery and administration practices are delivered in accordance with the IUIH Model of Care. The role will entail program delivery across a number of locations in SEQ, under limited supervision, as required.
Within this role, you will be required to:

  • Support medical engagement including, support to clients with cardiac and/or pulmonary conditions (and other co-morbidities), obtaining medical history and ongoing assessment in a professional, confidential and culturally safe manner
  • Perform service delivery within personal ability, observing universal precautions and follow standing orders / guidelines in the absence of a Medical Officer
  • Liaise and coordinate treatment, care and follow up through consultation with tertiary care providers, such as hospitals and agencies
  • Coordinate and deliver group education sessions
  • Unique opportunity to roll out programs in an autonomous but collaborative way as part of an integrated Rehab Team
  • Provide counselling and support for patients and referrals to appropriate sectors through consultation with doctor and patient
  • Maximise Medicare Billings/claims through effective and timely Clinic and patient records processes
  • Maintain accurate client records, including the collection and collation of statistical information to forecast service demand and budgets
  • Support students and trainees in respectful ways to facilitate their learning


About You?

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
  • Bachelor of Nursing Qualification (Registered and Enrolled Nurses welcome to apply)
  • APHRA Registration
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
  • Experience in the cardiopulmonary rehab sector
  • At least 3 years nursing experience
