The People, Property and Security Division works in partnership to deliver strategic and operational workforce services that enable and enhance organisational capability. The division provides stewardship, support and services across integrity; conduct; property; fraud and corruption; security; performance management; rehabilitation management; recruitment; learning and development; inclusion and diversity; workforce planning and analytics; workplace relations; people support; culture and health, safety and wellbeing.
The People, Strategy and Safety Branch is the centre of capability identification, acquisition, mobilisation and development in the department and supports the department to achieve its complex agenda through a highly capable, diverse and inclusive workforce. We provide valuable support and guidance to business areas through our closely connected sections: Health, Safety and Welfare Strategy and Systems; Health, Safety and Welfare Operations; Establishments and HR Reporting; Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion; Talent, Leadership and Capability; Workforce Strategy, Planning and Design.
There are two WHS Sections within the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). The WHS Enterprise section leads the overall WHS strategy and management of the department’s enterprise safety management system and the WHS National Operations section leads the engagement and practical implementation of the department’s safety management system with organisational stakeholders, including the provision and support on WHS matters.
The Job (WHS Project Lead)
The WHS Project Lead (WHS Enterprise), will work collectively in a team to support nationally significant projects, and contribute to the development of the department’s safety management system across risk, assurance, governance and compliance. You will have the opportunity to identify and drive work programs that are led with an evidence-based approach.
The Job (WHS Senior Advisor)
The WHS Senior Advisor (WHS National Operations) will provide timely advice on WHS matters, facilitate risk assessments, coach operational teams on how to identify and respond to hazards and incidents, conduct workplace inspections, audits and incident investigations, respond to incidents and WHS matters as they arise and attend work group meetings.
What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
- Candidates with WHS management experience, and work health and safety tertiary qualifications, would be highly regarded.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Codes of Practice, and relevant Australian and International Standards, and their application in workplaces with diverse hazard profiles.
- Competent in the application of risk management concepts and practices and WHS incident investigation methodologies.
- Knowledge and understanding of safety management systems, including their development and implementation in a large organisation with a diverse hazard profile.
- A minimum of three to five years’ experience working in a similar WHS role.
The successful applicant must:
- Hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers’ licence.
- Note that the physical requirements of the role(s) involve a combination of outdoor and office-based work.
