Mandatory requirements:

• Successful applicants are required to gain approval as a Convenor. Under the Youth Justice Act 1992, a restorative justice conference Convenor must be approved (accredited) by the Chief Executive.
• It is a requirement for successful applicants to attend and successfully complete the department's Convenor induction course (includes face-to-face training attendance). Accreditation as a Convenor is further subject to the ability to demonstrate competency in observed practice situations within a prescribed timeframe.
• It is a requirement to maintain convenor accreditation by successfully undertaking ongoing re-assessment of practice skills and knowledge as required by departmental policies.
• Drivers' license: it is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold an unrestricted “C” Class driver's licence. Officers are required to drive government vehicles as a part of their day-to-day work.
• This role is designated as Regulated employment as the position provides support services to children and young people, and therefore will require a valid Blue Card to be linked with the organisation prior to starting. Please refer to the Blue Card Services website (http://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au/) for further information.
• While the position is based Mt. Isa, travel within the region for site visits and to other regional/departmental offices may be required in this role. This may include overnight stays.

As the Convenor, you will specifically:

• Work effectively within a statutory environment to facilitate restorative justice processes with young people who have committed offences, victims and other relevant parties and complete all tasks consistent with legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
• Ensure that written and oral information and advice to Courts, agencies and other stakeholders is in accordance with relevant statutory, legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
• Work collaboratively as part of a team, to achieve positive outcomes for victims, young people who have committed offences, their families and the community.
• Identify, liaise and maintain strong working relationships with relevant external stakeholders.
• Pro-actively work to ensure the use of culturally appropriate, collaborative and evidence-based restorative justice processes that align with Youth Justice strategic direction.
• Actively participate in a range of continuing professional development activities to continuously improve your ability to contribute to organisational goals, including training, supervision and accreditation.
• Contribute to a Departmental culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices.
• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
