The Public Health Unit provides services designed to maintain and improve the public and environmental health, safety and wellbeing of the community.
About the Position:
We are seeking a Graduate Environmental Health Officer to join the Public Health team for up to 12 months. Reporting to the Team Leader Public Health, the role includes:
- Carrying out statutory functions of an Environmental Health Officer under the Food Act 1984, Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Environment Protection Act 2017, Tobacco Act 1987 and other legislated or general tasks related to the position
- Responding to service requests and complaints from the community on public health related matters, and after investigating, implement appropriate proactive preventative action so that any hazards are minimised and resolved in accordance with legislation and procedures.
- Contributing to the success of Council through active teamwork, facilitation and effective performance of the responsibilities and duties of this position

Skills and Experience:
- A Degree in Bachelor of Health Science (Public and Environmental Health) or equivalent and be eligible for membership of Environmental Health Professionals Australia (EHPA)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to solve problems with customers and colleagues in an enforcement environment
- Effective written communication skills including the ability to prepare correspondence in response to matters of varying complexity and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as operate autonomously
Requirement of the position:
- Right to work in Australia
- Employee Working with Children’s Check
- Satisfactory National Police Check
- Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
