Job description:

Location: Sydney CBD and Parramatta

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time (12-month contract)

Salary: Clerk Grade 11/12 $145,378 to $168,130 per annum. Salary is negotiable based on skills and experience.

Your Role

As a Principal UX/UI Designer in the Digital Customer Experience Team (DCX) at the Department of Communities and Justice, you will lead a team of designers to deliver accessible, user-centric digital experiences for NSW Courts and Tribunals.

This senior leadership role will shape the future of digital service delivery, ensuring alignment with human-centered design principles and the Digital.NSW design system.

What You'll Do

  • Lead end-to-end UX/UI design across discovery, prototyping, and iterative development.
  • You'll collaborate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver impactful digital solutions.
  • Ensure accessibility, usability, and brand alignment across all digital touchpoints.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in service and product design.
  • Manage complex work packages and contribute to business case development and investment planning.

What We're Looking For

  • A strategic thinker with deep experience in UX/UI design, service design, and digital product development.
  • Proven leadership in managing design teams and delivering high-impact digital solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
  • Expertise in agile methodologies, human-centered design, and accessibility standards.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in UX/UI or related fields.
