Your new role
As the Design Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of primary systems for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and grid connections up to 132kV. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, stability, and efficiency of electrical networks by designing and integrating advanced primary systems tailored for BESS and high voltage grid connections.
You will work closely with PLUS ES's Business Development team on some of the most exciting renewable connection and storage opportunities, understanding customers' needs and providing an end-to-end solution from initial feasibility and value engineering through to detailed design.
Your key responsibilities will be (but not limited to):
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams including control and protection, civil/structural engineers, ASP3 designers and project managers to deliver robust and compliant solutions.
Conducting technical assessments, developing detailed design specifications, producing bills of materials, providing input to procurement exercises, and ensuring adherence to industry standards, safety in design principles, and regulatory requirements.
Enhancing the operational performance of electrical networks and supporting the transition towards a smarter, more resilient grid by leveraging state-of-the-art technology and best practices in primary systems engineering.

To be successful, you will have:
Comprehensive understanding of equipment issues such as performance, acoustics, fire safety, spacing, and other critical factors.
Extensive knowledge and layout experience for large-scale BESS installations and their cable collector systems
Experience in BESS Design/Development
ASP3 Accredited
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Engineering degree in a relevant discipline
Desirable skills and experience:
Grid connection experience for, BESS, EVCI, wind, solar, data centres
Understanding of Australian Standards, specifically AS/NZS3000 and AS2067, the Regulatory Environment, Energy Rules and Contestable Connections
Experience design HV and LV electrical networks, including producing SLD’s, site plans, substation and BESS layouts, cable schedules, clearance checks, cable rating and electrical design reports.
Knowledge of earthing and lightning protection systems and designs
Knowledge of underground cable ratings
Familiarity with design models from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through to Detailed Design.
Familiarity with protection relay coordination and settings
Knowledge of SCADA systems and communication protocols
Familiarity with designing and implementing control systems for high voltage applications
