The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) is currently seeking applications for an Assistant Director, to join the National Listings team.
These positions can be located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney on an ongoing basis.
Remuneration: The annual salary range for the position is EL1 $117,665 - $138,493 p.a., plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.
About the opportunity
The Assistant Director National Listings leads a team responsible for managing the allocation of applications for review (cases) to Tribunal members in accordance with relevant Tribunal policies, listing cases for hearing by members and capturing member availability and work patterns to maintain an up to date, cohesive view of available member resources.
Reporting to the Director of National Listings, the Assistant Director will manage listings for a particular Jurisdictional Area or Areas as well as contribute to whole of section initiatives and deliverables.
This role supports the development and implementation of listings strategies in line with the Tribunal’s statutory objectives and works closely with their Assistant Director National Listing counterparts and colleagues across a range of operational and enabling areas.. The Assistant Director will also collaborate with members and member leaders on ensuring the section is delivering an effective listings function and is responsive to feedback.
About you:
To be successful you will have:
- Strong management experience and ability to translate organisational vision and strategy into operational goals.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and implement change, identify opportunities for improvement and promote a positive approach to dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, exercise evaluative judgement, work with broad parameters and considerable autonomy to deliver results.
- Extensive knowledge of the Tribunal’s applicable legislative and policy framework, caseload, operations, practices and procedures, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
Essential:
- The Tribunal requires Australian Citizenship as a condition of engagement.
- All employees are required to undertake an Australian Federal Police Check and a Health Assessment.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications, training or experience related to one or more functions or powers of the Tribunal.

About Administrative Appeals Tribunal
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) conducts independent merits review of administrative decisions made under Commonwealth laws. We review decisions made by Australian Government ministers, departments and agencies and, in limited circumstances, decisions made by state government and non-government bodies. We also review decisions made under Norfolk Island laws.
The AAT was established by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act 1975 and commenced operations on 1 July 1976.
On 1 July 2015 the Migration Review Tribunal, Refugee Review Tribunal and Social Security Appeals Tribunal were merged with the AAT.
