Position Overview:
The Heavy Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on cranes, trucks, and associated equipment to ensure optimal safety, reliability, and performance. This position plays a key role in reducing equipment downtime and supporting operational efficiency through routine servicing and prompt resolution of mechanical issues. The role also involves close collaboration with the broader mechanical team to uphold high standards of workmanship and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conduct scheduled maintenance and repairs on cranes, trucks, and other machinery to manufacturer specifications.
· Diagnose mechanical issues promptly and accurately, implementing repairs effectively.
· Perform pre-emptive inspections to identify potential problems and reduce unexpected downtime.
· Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety and operational standards.
· Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
· Identify the root cause of malfunctions and recommend solutions for repairs or replacements.
· Keep up-to-date with advancements in equipment diagnostics and integrate new techniques as needed.
· Ensure all equipment maintenance is performed following company policies, safety standards, and legal regulations.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop and work environment.
· Adhere to all workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements and actively participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
· Report safety risks or hazards and implement corrective measures promptly.
· Maintain detailed records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
· Complete maintenance logs accurately and submit them within required timeframes.
· Provide technical guidance and support to crane operators, drivers, and other team members.
· Collaborate with suppliers and external contractors for specialized repairs or parts procurement.
Key Skills and Competencies:
· Comprehensive knowledge of crane, truck, and heavy equipment maintenance and repair techniques.
· Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills to resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
· Ability to identify potential risks or issues during inspections and maintenance.
· Deep understanding of workplace health and safety regulations.
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills to support operational goals.
· Proactively stays updated with advancements in equipment technologies and maintenance practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
· Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent qualification.
· High-Risk Work License (e.g., Forklift, EWP, if required).
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in maintaining and repairing cranes, trucks, or similar equipment.
· Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software for heavy vehicles and equipment.
· Strong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
· Previous experience in a workshop or field service environment is preferred.
