Systems Development Engineer

Job Description
We are seeking experienced Systems Development Engineers to join a high-impact engineering team responsible for redefining how cloud infrastructure is built and operated in Australia. You will work within the Region Services division, focused on building cloud environments that meet the unique requirements of government and regulated industries, including high-security workloads.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring experience in systems automation, infrastructure monitoring, and operational tooling to support rapid scaling and resilience. You will contribute to the design and maintenance of systems that support secure service delivery, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance in high-availability environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 
  Define or refine system requirements and support the development of monitoring, diagnostics, and self-healing automation features
• 
  Build and enhance systems management tools to reduce manual operations and improve performance
• 
  Improve operations processes and tooling to support growth and scalability
• 
  Participate in new hardware evaluations and production acceptance testing
• 
  Monitor and maintain infrastructure fleet health, implementing automation where appropriate
• 
  Participate in an on-call rotation to support incident response

Education/Certifications Required

• 
  Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)

Knowledge/Skills Required

• 
  Minimum 3 years of systems engineering or administration experience
• 
  Solid background in networking, storage systems, and operating system administration
• 
  Hands-on experience with Linux or Unix systems
• 
  Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Go, Java, Ruby, C++, Rust)
• 
  Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems

Desirable

• 
  Familiarity with secure system design and operations in classified or highly regulated environments
• 
  Prior experience in cloud-native infrastructure automation
• 
  Experience managing cloud services at hyperscale
• 
  Background in public sector or defence environments

Security Clearance
You must be an Australian Citizen with a minimum Baseline clearance and be eligible to obtain, a TSPV Security Clearance. Eligibility information can be found at: defence.gov.au/agsva
