Lead one of Queensland’s largest volunteer programs with RSPCA Queensland, a trusted name in animal welfare for nearly 140 years.

This is your opportunity to step into a leadership role that makes a genuine difference. Whether you’re an experienced volunteer program manager ready for your next challenge, or a rising talent prepared to take on full program responsibility, we want to hear from you.

Balancing compassion with operational excellence, you will drive a volunteer program that enhances engagement, upholds strong governance, and supports our mission to create a better world for all animals. Salary banding for this role is commensurable with experience and skills, and sits between $95,000 and $120,000.

About the Role

As the Volunteering Services Manager, you will lead RSPCA Queensland’s volunteering program, supporting over 2,500 volunteers across animal care, retail, rescue, foster, and events.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading, coaching and developing the volunteering team to achieve high performance and positive culture.

• Overseeing the full volunteer lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, performance, and retention.

• Ensuring volunteer roles are purposeful, clearly defined, and aligned to organisational priorities.

• Designing and delivering recruitment, retention, and recognition strategies that position RSPCA Qld as a volunteer organisation of choice.

• Maintaining current volunteer policies and ensuring compliance with all legal, safety, and internal requirements.

• Managing data and reporting through Better Impact; delivering training for staff and volunteers in system use.

• Building strong relationships with internal teams and key stakeholders such as Volunteering Queensland and community partners.

• Representing RSPCA Qld at external events and managing Work for the Dole partnerships.

• Leading strategic planning and program evaluation, aligning activities with national volunteer standards.

• Providing regular reporting on volunteer metrics, impact, and continuous improvement opportunities.

• Managing internal communications with volunteers, including newsletters, events, and engagement initiatives.

• Championing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all volunteers.

About You

We’re looking for a proactive, people-centred leader who can drive outcomes while nurturing a supportive volunteer experience. You will ideally bring:

• A degree in social sciences, business, human resources, or a related field (highly desirable).

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written, verbal, listening, and negotiation.

• A demonstrated ability to engage others and foster collaborative outcomes.

• Capacity to influence change and lead initiatives across varied stakeholder groups.

• High standards of integrity, accountability, and professional conduct.

• A compassionate approach, particularly in supporting volunteers through challenges.

• Experience in volunteer program management or a comparable leadership role.

• Strategic planning and project management capabilities.

• Confidence using digital platforms and volunteer management systems (e.g. Better Impact).

• The ability to align operational plans to broader organisational strategy.

• Physical capacity to perform manual handling tasks up to 10kg as required.

• A genuine alignment with the RSPCA Qld mission, values, and commitment to animal welfare.
