Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

Are you passionate about creating lasting change for Australians living with disability and making a positive impact utilising your strong analytical and strategic thinking skills? The Strategy Branch is seeking experienced APS6 Strategy Officer professionals to join the NDIA, as part of the Service Design Division.

We are seeking excellent communicators who have demonstrated experience in preparing and drafting materials for a range of stakeholders, clearly communicating perspectives, recommendations and implications for the Agency. You will have the skills and ability to support the development and management of project plans, schedules and reporting, in line with established project management frameworks. You will exhibit active listening and be confident in liaising with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, modelling the APS and NDIA Values and making a positive contribution to the Branch culture.

The Strategy Branch develops and delivers highly complex and significant outcomes, projects and work programs that have strategic and operational impact to the Agency in delivering better experiences and outcomes for participants. It is responsible for addressing critical issues of Agency impact including leading Agency-wide teams and integrating multiple perspectives to solve Agency issues. The branch ensures priorities and solutions are transitioned into action, for delivery by the relevant implementation group.

Where you can add value

The APS6 Strategy Officer is required to provide detailed technical and operational support and advice. The position will have a considerable level of contact with internal and external stakeholders and will be required to communicate with and provide advice on a range of matters to senior executive to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries.

The role requires superior problem solving skills with the ability to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries with sound decision-making and strategic advice, based on policies and legislation.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Gathering and developing structured insights and recommendations that address complex problems within strategic projects.
  • Developing fact based quantitative and qualitative analysis including modelling in Microsoft Excel.
  • Drafting components of materials for senior internal and external stakeholders, including the Minister, Board and Executive Leadership Team, communicating perspectives, recommendations and implications for the Agency.
  • Presenting recommendations and facilitating discussions with a range of Agency stakeholders and leadership.
  • Drafting content for embedding change, including policy papers, guidance materials and action plans.

While this role is ideally performed from VIC - Geelong, VIC - Richmond, NSW - Surry Hills, SA - Adelaide, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
