Key responsibilities
- Provide mechanical and technical support services relating to the regional fleet and equipment function. This may include but is not limited to performance of mechanical or technical tasks, liaison with repairers and maintenance providers, quality assurance activities, resolution of technical issues, training and information dissemination.
- Provide expert mechanical and technical advice on a broad range of fleet and equipment including stretchers, telecommunications, safety requirements and equipment.
- Perform mechanical and technical work unsupervised using decision making and problem solving skills.
- Undertake quality inspections on site, at stations and workshops and collate inspection reports. Inspections may include the commissioning or de-commissioning of vehicles, or inspection of the quality of service providers for mechanical or technical issues.
- Liaise with vehicle repairers, maintenance providers and body builders regarding preventative maintenance and reactive (i.e. because of accidents or warranty issues) repair jobs, including the supply of parts, estimated completion dates and costs.
- Provide educative and authoritative advice to external providers on complex technical and mechanical issues.
- Arrange vehicle transportation to and from repairers utilising internal and external transportation providers.
- Source and deliver spare parts and tools to repairers utilising internal and external providers when required, including the use of procurement processes for the purchase of large-scale products or services.
- Adhere to QAS workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times and escalate any identified issues related to vehicle specifications and safety equipment to the relevant manager.
- Prepare, collate and maintain job authorisations, service measures and loan vehicle and technical equipment registers and databases, including the QAS Asset Management System (AMS).
- Prepare and collate daily reports from and for key stakeholders in a timely manner. Provide advice to operational and senior operational supervisors within the region regarding the road worthiness of fleet vehicles following accidents or the identification of vehicle faults.
- Monitor, maintain and update service schedules and dates, fleet replacement schedules and overdue service programs.
- Prepare, submit and maintain warranty documentation with the Fleet and Equipment Unit and body building service providers.
- Contribute to strategic vehicle usage management across the region by monitoring and reporting on vehicle usage and coordinating vehicle rotation as required.
- Review invoices, liaise with service providers and ensure that all information received is accurate and sent to the appropriate area for payment in a timely manner.
- Manage workshop emails and communications from internal and external parties and maintain administrative systems and processes to support regional workshop operations.
- Order and coordinate the commissioning of vehicle communications equipment as required.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Queensland Public Sector and QAS values.
- Uphold the QAS Statement of Commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Cultural Safety Policy Statement and prioritise safe, effective, quality healthcare that is free from racism and discrimination
The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:
- Applicants must have the recognised trade qualification of A: Grade Automotive Technician, or other equivalent trade qualification; with a minimum of three (3) years post-apprentice trade experience.
