Expansion to Regional and Rural Victoria

Join the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS) team as we expand our services across Regional and Rural Victoria, establishing sites throughout regional and metropolitan Victoria. CFMHS is a specialist state-wide agency that works with individuals who have a serious mental health illness and have offended or are at risk of offending.

This newly created position provides an exciting opportunity to be part of a new service, reflective of the expanding growth of Forensicare. These roles will embed Forensicare's model of care in practice within Melbourne's Western Metropolitan region, which will include assessing and managing violence risk, working collaboratively in a recovery-orientated framework and proactively developing and maintaining close professional relationships with the relevant AMHWS.

About the Role:

The Senior Psychologist is part of the multi-disciplinary team and provides a high level of clinical and forensic psychological expertise. The position undertakes assessments and treatment of clients referred to the Regional Forensic Mental Health Service and provides consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders.

The Senior Psychologist may also provide supervision to postgraduate psychology students and staff and may be involved in scholarly writing and research.

Duties:

  • Provide specialist psychological, psychometric and risk assessments and reports where required, including reports for the Courts and other agencies.
  • Provide an advanced range of advice on psychological services including secondary consultations regarding the management and treatment of complex client issues to other clinicians and also to professionals supporting and supervising these clients.
  • Provide individual and/or group-based interventions as appropriate.
  • Assess and deliver treatment interventions to clients in settings external to Forensicare, where required, including prison settings and secure residential settings.
  • Contribute to patient risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

About You:

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Extensive knowledge of the current psychological approaches in working with mentally, and/or behaviourally disordered clients in the forensic mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, the mental health system, and the criminal justice system.
  • Previous working experience in a mental health facility, correctional service, or a forensic mental health service.
  • Skills in clinical forensic psychology including forensic assessments (e.g., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with offenders and/or forensic patients.

What you need:

  • Masters or Doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology, or, Doctoral degree in Forensic psychology from an APAC accredited course or equivalent.
  • Ahpra approved area of practice in clinical psychology and/or forensic psychology.
  • Endorsement or eligibility for endorsement by the Psychologists Registration Board of Australia, in the area of clinical psychology.
  • At least five years’ experience practicing as a fully registered psychologist.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

This position will initially have a hybrid working arrangement between Paul Mullen Centre – Clifton Hill and local area pending establishment of site post July 2025.

Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.

We provide forensic mental health services for people:
