The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. We support safe, professional practice and behaviour by over 750,000 registered health practitioners across Australia.

Ahpra and National Boards have concerns that some new models of care may take advantage of consumer demand for certain treatments and compromise good patient care. Ahpra has established a new Rapid Regulatory Response Unit (RRRU) to address areas of practice with high volume and high patient demand, including medicinal cannabis and cosmetic injectables. These areas require a joint regulatory response with other regulatory agencies to ensure safe and appropriate practice in these evolving models of care.

The Rapid Regulatory Response Unit (RRRU) is a new and agile team established to bridge the gap between regulatory intelligence and regulatory action. The team’s focus is to gather targeted intelligence about emerging issues and concerns, and to convert this into actionable regulatory issues. Where matters relate to individual practitioners, the unit identifies the relevant practitioner and supporting evidence to inform our notifications processes.

The Operations Manager will lead the day-to-day operations of the unit, ensuring effective delivery, cross-team collaboration, and alignment across offices.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the regulatory response team, supporting its work on emerging regulatory issues.
  • Design and implement processes to assess issues and recommend appropriate regulatory responses (noting that implementation of responses will often sit with other teams).
  • Provide expert regulatory advice in assessing issues involving individual health practitioners or health organisations, applying Board codes, standards, healthcare legislation, and relevant guidance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with other regulators and key health sector stakeholders to identify intelligence sources and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Foster a positive, high-performing team culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and wellbeing.

As an ideal candidate, you will demonstrate:

  • managing geographically dispersed or hybrid teams
  • working in a health regulation or comparable professional regulation setting
  • building high-performance, service-oriented team cultures
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as health, law, investigations, regulation, or risk assessment.
  • Additional qualifications or experience in management, leadership, or team development.
  • Strong leadership experience, ideally including:
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and staff wellbeing.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to lead the preparation of high-quality reports, recommendations, and correspondence.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to lead teams that listen, engage, consult, and influence across a range of settings.

What we offer:

  • Interesting and meaningful work with a strong public safety focus
  • A values-driven and supportive workplace culture
  • Discounts on Medibank Private Health Insurance and selected gym memberships
  • Great work/life balance and flexibility
  • Central office locations with modern, open-plan workspaces
  • Salary of $149,515 per annum plus superannuation
