Teacher - Maths/Science
Language Disorder Australia
Posted 13 days ago
Language Disorder Australia is seeking a purposeful and adaptable Maths / Science Teacher to join our award-winning school, Mancel College.
Role: Secondary Teacher – Maths / Science
Status: Full Time
Role Commencing: Term 3, 2025 (Or earlier by negotiation)
Location: Mancel College | Fig Tree Pocket, Brisbane
At Mancel College, we believe that every young person deserves to be seen for their potential, not their limitations.
We’re looking for a Maths / Science teacher who can bring abstract concepts to life and make logic feel like an invitation, not a barrier. You’ll design lessons that are practical, purposeful, and adapted to meet students where they are, while encouraging them to go further than they thought possible.
This role is designed for someone who is more than a traditional teacher. Your primary teaching load will sit within Maths / Science and you’ll also contribute to supporting students in other areas such as Literacy or Health. Our approach values flexibility and collaboration, and our team thrives on working together to meet each student’s needs, wherever they’re at.
At Mancel College, you won’t just deliver differentiated content across different year levels, you’ll change the way students see themselves. Our learners are curious, capable and hungry for connection, but many arrive with a history of misunderstanding or missed opportunity due to Language Disorder and co-occurring disabilities. They need someone with an understanding of neurodiversity who sees them not as a diagnosis or a difficulty, but as a whole person ready to connect, belong and achieve.
Teaching here is different. You’ll have smaller class sizes, strong in-class support, and regular access to a multidisciplinary allied health team who are truly part of the learning environment. You’ll be surrounded by a team that values relationships, reflection and professional growth.
We’re looking for someone who wants to do more than teach, someone who wants to belong to something that matters. If you value connection, purpose, and the power of education to shift trajectories, we would love to hear from you.
What You Will Do
As our Maths / Science Teacher, you will:
Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in Maths and/or Science for Years 7–12
Develop programs that build students’ numeracy, critical thinking, and scientific literacy
Understand the unique needs of neurodiverse students with Language Disorders and co-occurring disabilities, and can adapt your teaching to support them
Design differentiated strategies that empower students academically, socially, and personally, ensuring their safety, voice, and agency are upheld
Work closely with allied health professionals, teachers, and leadership as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated, student-centred support
Maintain a structured, inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged
Collaborate with families to build trust, maintain transparency, and support each student’s progress and wellbeing
Contribute to the broader school environment, including areas such as literacy, health, and wellbeing, where appropriate
Engage in ongoing professional learning, reflection, and collaboration to continually improve your practice and impact
What You Will Not Be Doing
Working in isolation. You’ll be supported by a multidisciplinary team and a collaborative staff culture
Delivering rigid, textbook-based instruction. You'll bring Maths and Science to life through practical, flexible, and student-responsive learning
Lowering expectations. You'll provide high challenge and high support so that every student can access success
Reinforcing deficit thinking. Your role is to believe in every student’s potential and advocate for their progress
Waiting for change to happen. You'll be part of a team that is actively reimagining how education can work, for teachers and students
What You Will Bring
Teaching qualifications and current QCT registration
Experience teaching secondary Maths and/or Science
A learner-centred, inclusive approach to education and a passion for building student confidence
Strong communication skills and the ability to build authentic relationships with students, colleagues, and families
A collaborative mindset and comfort working alongside allied health professionals as part of a support team
A growth mindset and willingness to engage in ongoing professional learning
Confidence teaching General or Essential Maths or Science is an advantage
BENEFITS:
What can we give you in return for your passion:
An exceptionally satisfying experience as you take students on their learning journey
Professional Development: Expand your skill set with opportunities for transdisciplinary development, external and internal growth opportunities.
