Language Disorder Australia
Posted 17 days ago
Language Disorder Australia is seeking a creative and passionate Food Technology / Hospitality Teacher to join our award-winning school, Mancel College.
Role: Secondary Teacher – Food Technology / Hospitality
Status: Full Time or Part Time (negotiable)
Role Commencing: Term 3, 2025 (or earlier by negotiation)
Location: Mancel College | Fig Tree Pocket, Brisbane
At Mancel College, we believe every young person deserves to be seen for their strengths, not their limitations.
We’re on a mission to create real learning that connects with life beyond the classroom, and we are building a team of educators who bring skill, creativity and purpose to that vision.
We are seeking a Food Technology/Hospitality teacher who brings subject expertise, but also a genuine commitment to inclusion, flexibility and real-world learning. This role is for a teacher who wants to do more than deliver content. You’ll be part of a school community that is rewriting the educational experience for students with Language Disorder and co-occurring disabilities.
Our students are capable, curious and hungry for connection. Many arrive having been misunderstood or underestimated. Here, they are met with belief, support and high expectations. You won’t just teach recipes or units of competency, you’ll help students build independence, confidence and a sense of possibility.
You’ll teach in small classes, with strong in-class support and ongoing collaboration with a multidisciplinary allied health team. We value professional dialogue, collective problem-solving, and reflective practice. You’ll be surrounded by a team that shares your passion for doing education differently and better.
If you believe in the power of education to shift trajectories, and in the potential of every young person to Connect, Belong and Achieve, we would love to hear from you.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
As our Food Technology / Hospitality Teacher, you will:
Deliver engaging, hands-on lessons in Food Technology and/or Certificate II in Hospitality that build life skills, independence, and industry knowledge (Ability to teach VET Hospitality, highly desired).
Tailor practical and theoretical programs to meet the diverse needs of students with Language Disorder and co-occurring disabilities
Design differentiated strategies that empower students academically, socially, and personally, ensuring their safety, voice, and agency are upheld
Create a structured, inclusive, and responsive classroom environment where students feel confident to explore and succeed
Work closely with allied health professionals, teachers, and leadership as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated, student-centred support
Collaborate with families to build trust, maintain transparency, and support each student’s progress and wellbeing
Contribute to the broader school environment, including areas such as literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing, where appropriate
Engage in ongoing professional learning, reflection, and collaboration to continually improve your practice and impact
WHAT YOU WILL NOT BE DOING:
Teaching in isolation. You’ll work as part of a connected, multidisciplinary team that values shared insight and collective problem-solving
Delivering generic content. Your lessons won’t come from a one-size-fits-all playbook. You’ll be creating engaging, practical learning that meets students where they are
Lowering expectations. You’ll support students to achieve meaningful, high standards with the right scaffolding and belief in their ability
Focusing solely on curriculum. This role is also about building confidence, communication, and connection, not just skills in the kitchen
Reinforcing limitations. Many of our students have been approached from a deficit mindset. Your role is to do the opposite—to advocate for their strengths and help them see what’s possible
WHAT YOU BRING:
Relevant teaching qualifications and QCT registration
Experience teaching Food Technology and Certificate II in Hospitality, with a strong understanding of both practical and theoretical content
A passion for inclusive education and a belief in the potential of neurodiverse learners
Ability to engage students through practical, purposeful, and differentiated learning
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116/40122) (desirable for VET delivery)
BENEFITS:
What can we give you in return for your passion:
An exceptionally satisfying experience as you take students on their learning journey
Professional Development: Expand your skill set with opportunities for transdisciplinary development, external and internal growth opportunities.
More take home pay: How can we offer this? A little-known fact is that as a Not-For Profit organisation, we can offer our employees Salary Packaging options to boost their take-home pay by 6% - 12% per annum (up to $7,500 increase in the amount you take home and spend, rather than going to taxes).
Annual salary increment progression PLUS yearly 3% salary increases as outlined in our Enterprise Agreement
More extras: 17.5% annual leave loading, 1 day of paid Health Screening Leave, 14 weeks Paid Parental Leave, Discounts with Medibank Health Insurance, Novated Car Leasing.
