We are establishing a dedicated in-house drafting division to support our growing structural steel operations and we are looking for a highly experienced Structural Steel Draftsperson to lead this new team.

This role is ideal for someone who not only excels at drafting complex steel structures using Tekla Structures software, but is also ready to take on a leadership and oversight role, managing other draftspersons and ensuring all output meets the highest standards of accuracy and constructability.

You will be involved in hands-on drafting, checking and reviewing the work of others, and helping to set the technical standards and processes for the drafting team.

Key Responsibilities

Use Tekla Structures software to produce detailed structural steel shop drawings and 3D models

Take a lead role in building and managing the new internal drafting division

Oversee the work of other draftspersons, including checking, reviewing, and providing feedback

Ensure all drawings meet Australian Standards, client requirements, and internal quality expectations

Work closely with project managers, engineers, and workshop staff to ensure seamless project delivery

Contribute to developing drafting workflows, templates, and quality control procedures

Required Skills and Experience

Significant experience as a Structural Steel Draftsperson

Advanced proficiency in Tekla Structures software is essential

Deep understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices

Proven experience checking and reviewing drawings for other draftspersons

Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills

Ability to work independently and take full responsibility for drafting outputs

Desirable (but not essential)

Experience managing or mentoring small drafting teams

Familiarity with BIM coordination and digital workflows

Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other design platforms

Site experience or construction background
