Victorian Labor is seeking a qualified, experienced and motivated Compliance Officer to join our Finance Team. You will have a lead role in ensuring we meet our regulatory and organisational obligations under the Victorian Electoral Act 2002, including monitoring and maintaining our reporting requirements.

You will be responsible for the collection, collation and analysis of all Branch, local branch and State Election Campaign Committee transactions, events and fundraising data. The role will also be responsible for donation reporting and declarations to the Victorian Electoral Commission within prescribed legislative guidelines.

You will report to the Director of Finance and Compliance.

Key responsibilities:

• Maintain a thorough understanding of the relevant legislation and system functionality.

• Ensure all donations are disclosed within the legislated timeframe as per Part 12 of the Electoral Act 2002 (Vic).

• Keep accurate and complete records of work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and branch processes and policies.

• Manage compliance obligations for state fundraisers in accordance with legislative requirements and party policies and procedures.

• Assist with the training of stakeholders to ensure compliance with reporting obligations and donation caps under the Electoral Act 2002 (Vic).

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

• A relevant tertiary qualification (or 5 years plus experience in directly related finance/ compliance work).

• Experience as a Compliance Officer and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain internal controls which meet legislative requirements.

• An understanding of the legislative requirements of political parties, including reporting to the Victorian Electoral Commission and the Australian Electoral Commission.

• The ability to lead, educate, coach and develop others on best practice in compliance matters.

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and manage relationships effectively to achieve compliance objectives.

• Exceptional attention to detail, excellent organisational skills and an ability to work within strict time limits.

• A sound level of political awareness and judgement along with the ability to read situations and act to support and enhance the reputation and effectiveness of Victorian Labor.
