The Position
Scotch College has an opportunity for a motivated General Hand with a diverse skillset to join our Facilities Department maintaining the buildings and grounds across our 22-hectare campus on a full-time permanent basis commencing as soon as available.
The role is 40 hours per week, 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with a monthly rostered day off.
The Facilities Department is well resourced with a state-of-the-art manufacturing workshop and a highly skilled team. You will join a team of approximately twenty facilities staff, supporting maintenance operations, assisting tradespeople, and helping prepare the College for its diverse calendar of events. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you’ll contribute to maintaining the College to a high standard while supporting the day-to-day operations that make Scotch College an exceptional place to learn and work.
About the Role
As a General Hand you will:
Perform a variety of maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, and general repairs
Assist with event setup and pack-down (bump in and bump out), moving furniture and equipment across campus
Operate school vehicles and tools to support the Facilities team
Maintain cleanliness and functionality of school grounds and buildings
Assist tradespeople and contractors on-site as needed
Respond to maintenance requests via our web help desk system
Carry out deliveries and collections of materials, parcels, and rubbish removal

About You
To be successful, you will have:
A broad range of general maintenance skills (basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, etc.)
Experience in similar maintenance, facilities, or trade support roles
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
A strong work ethic and pride in the quality of your work
High quality workmanship
Good communication skills and a professional attitude
Confidence in performing minor repairs, with the ability to identify and recognise work that is required to be completed, without specific direction
Hold a current manual driver’s licence
