Ecosystem Health Branch provides the framework for efficient and effective management of invasive species including plant diseases, weeds and pest animals to help conserve natural values on lands managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions' (DBCA) Parks and Wildlife Service. The branch is responsible for the coordination of the Western Shield program, Cane Toad Strategy and Vegetation Health Service diagnostic laboratory as well as providing policy support for the implementation of the Forest Management Plan.
We are currently seeking a Senior Operations Officer Invasive Animals to join our team.
Under the limited direction of the Invasive Animals Program Leader, you will:
- Research and collate material including liaison with stakeholders to develop policy and procedure for invasive animal management and prepare documents, discussion papers, submissions and reports relating to projects as required.
- Assist with, and at times lead, data collection, analysis and interpretation and provide advice and support for monitoring programs.
- Think outside the square and investigate and prepare recommendations for improving invasive animal management, including novel funding opportunities.
- Provide high level advice and procedural-based support to non-DBCA organisations with invasive animal projects.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria
- Provide examples that support ability to work both independently and in a team environment, demonstrating initiative, integrity, leadership, negotiation and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically, organise and prioritise issues and operations and formulate appropriate recommendations; based on applying the principles of research and problem solving.
- Experience and knowledge in planning and implementing high-level programs for the management of invasive animals for conservation outcomes.
- Ability to interpret policy and legislation and prepare guidelines and procedures to assist in the management of invasive animals in Western Australia, including use of schedule 7 poisons.
