An exciting opportunity has become available at Oberon Council for a highly motivated and proactive Senior Mechanic.

The Senior Mechanic assists in the planning and execution of the fleet maintenance program, including procurement of parts, materials and equipment/tools as well as supervision of other workshop employees.

The main objectives of this role are to ensure plant compliance and confirm employee training to assure compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR), relevant regulations and manufacturers specifications. Attend regular meetings with Plant Manager, and other workshop staff as required, to plan for, develop and monitor works, resources and maintenance schedules in line with the Works Program and Red Fleet requirements. Ensure compliance with fleet maintenance program Report on any major faults or anticipated faults or breakdowns to the Plant Manager and completes all relevant documentation/recording/reporting requirements in a timely manner.

Adhere to and – within area of responsibility/oversight – ensure compliance with WHS Act & Regulation, all other relevant legislation as well as any relevant Council policies and workplace instructions.

Essential Requirements

Certificate III in Automation – Heavy Plant or equivalent, with a minimum of 4years work experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical principles and plant mechanics to meet standards associated with CoR.

Ability to organise work activities effectively in line with available resources.

Demonstrated ability and preparedness to operate electronic devices, such as mobile/satellite phone and iPad/tablet and/or preparedness to be trained in their operation.

Construction Induction White Card.

Current class C NSW Driver Licence.

Desirable Requirements

HR Licence.

Forklift certificate of competency.

Skilled in metal welding and fabrication.

Auto-electric experience.

Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with suppliers and contractors to ensure expectations are clear and business needs are met.

Commitment to continuous improvement.

Camera Surveillance and GPS Tracking

Camera surveillance has been installed in and on Council owned buildings and in some public spaces within the Council area. GPS tracking has been, or may be, installed in Council owned plant. Camera surveillance and GPS tracking is continuous and ongoing.

38 hrs/week

Monday to Friday 9-day fortnight with a rostered day off

Working Hours 6.45 - 4pm
