Sustaining access to information and support in burn survivor communities (PhD scholarship).
Work with a team of leading researchers to undertake your own innovative research in and across the field.
About the project and scholarships
This PhD project will explore the information and support needs of people with lived experience of burn injuries. The project will focus on priority groups in community settings in Australia, including young children and those living in rural and regional areas. The likely outcome of the project will be resources and strategies that help burn survivors, their families and communities access information and support which they have expressed is a high priority. Evaluating the sustainability of access to information will be a key part of the project.
The PhD project is part of a larger Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) project termed ‘Ember to Empower’ which aims to co-design information and support for burn survivors (also known as ‘overcomers’ by burn survivors themselves).
We are seeking 2 candidates who will be supervised by Associate Professor Tyack and another supervisor from AusHSI. The candidates will have the opportunity to engage with ‘overcomers’ who will guide the research; implementation scientists, qualitative researchers, and health economists at the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI); Burn Consumer Organisations and Burn Units across Australia; and clinical researchers at Children’s Health Queensland.
About the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI):
AusHSI is a research, consultancy and training organisation based at the Queensland University of Technology and part of the Centre for Healthcare Transformation. We are a multidisciplinary centre comprising health economists, statisticians, health service, clinical and implementation science researchers. We enable health service organisations to evolve and improve based on the latest research. We integrate research findings into policy and practice and help make changes that result in greater efficiencies and enhanced patient outcomes.
