Are you an innovative, creative, enthusiastic Registered Psychiatric Nurse, who loves group work? We invite you to join our growing team at The Northern Hospital, in the Mental Health Division of Northern Health.
About Mental Health Division:
Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.
Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.
We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.
About the Role:
The Northern Hospital contains three acute adult mental health units for consumers aged between 18 and 64, who are at various stages in their mental health recovery. Our units consist of:
- Ward 7: A female only, 25 bed, adult women's unit.
- Ward 8: A mixed gender, 25 bed adult unit.
- Ward 23: A mixed gender, 30 bed adult unit, split across two levels.
This Grade 3 position requires an experienced Mental Health nurse, with a passion for running inclusive groups to:
- Be able to collaborate, co-design and co-facilitate groups and group programs with multidisciplinary team.
- Be able to capacity build nurses in group theory and group processes.
- To support students from a range of disciplines (including Occupational Therapy and Nursing) to understand the rationale for group program and increase their skills.
- Willing to reflect on their practice and participate in regular supervision.
- Document group attendance and collect data on group work to inform service planning- eg: noting which groups are most popular and which are poorly attended, and altering according to consumer interest and need.
- This role has an emphasis on working with nurses on Ward 7, 8 and 23 (one day a week on each unit) to build relationships and to develop a culture that encourages all nurses to run activities and groups by leading through example, and working collaboratively to include floor staff in the program.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Knowledge, skills and experience in facilitating evidence - based groups within an acute setting.
- Knowledge of group theory, recovery- oriented practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge and skills in data collection, including forming presentations that communicate group attendance over tim
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation and policies and strategic directions of Public Mental Health Services.
- Demonstrated capacity and initiative to work with limited direction. Demonstrated understanding of RN Scope of Practice.
- Ability to problem solve, negotiate and communicate with staff and other service providers.
- A knowledge of professional supervision and practice- based research.
- A sound understanding of recovery focussed care, and trauma informed practices.
- Demonstrate ability in professional role modelling to colleagues and students from a variety of disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate /co-facilitate activities as part of the Inpatient Program structure.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to work with, Consumer and Carer Peer Support Workers.
