The Location and Lifestyle:
Mt Carbine has a rich history of tungsten production and is strategically and conveniently located only 75 kms from the beautiful seaside town of Port Douglas in Far North Queensland where the Daintree Forest meets the Great Barrier Reef. The Mt Carbine Tungsten mine is 120km North of Cairns International Airport via sealed highway. Neighbouring the Mt Carbine township on the Mulligan Highway, The Mt Carbine Tungsten Mine is central to Mossman, Port Douglas, Mareeba, Julatten and Mt Molloy. For those with families, there is a choice of private and public schools, as well as universities and technical education facilities in the area.
About the Role
Mt Carbine Mining is seeking a highly motivated and practical Junior Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team in Far North Queensland. This position is instrumental in supporting our expanding mining operations, delivering technical expertise in mine design, planning, and scheduling. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—geologists, operations, and maintenance personnel—to ensure that production targets are safely and efficiently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and update: short term mine plans, blast master and blast designs.
Collaborate with operations to optimize blasting, drilling, and production activities.
Monitor and analyse operational data to improve cost-effectiveness and productivity.
Contribute to pit and waste dump designs, surveying, and drill-and-blast coordination.
Support compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, ensuring best-practice standards across site activities.
Liaise with cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and execute continuous improvement initiatives.
Prepare reports and documentation for management, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
Key Selection Criteria:
Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience in open-cut or underground hard-rock mining (tungsten, gold, tin or other metals experience beneficial, preferably narrow vein style deposits).
Strong knowledge of Australian mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
Proficiency with mine design, scheduling and blast software (e.g., Surpac, Vulcan, Deswik, Shot Plus or similar).
Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a small, agile team environment.
A proactive, problem-solving mindset, and willingness to adapt to changing operational demands.
Must have valid Australian work rights.
A current Australian driver’s license
Roster & Working Conditions:
Minimum of 84 hours per fortnight, typically worked as 12-hour day shifts (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM) over 7 days.
Potential for additional hours as reasonably required and authorized by the Company.
Access to a bus service for travel to and from site from either Port Douglas or Mareeba during your rostered weeks, as well as use of company vehicles on-site for work purposes.
