THE POSITION:
The primary purpose of this position is to implement Councils priority weed inspection program. This includes surveillance of public and private lands, mapping, collaborations and educating residents and businesses, industrial lands, nurseries, shops, markets and other high-risk pathways to minimise the spread of priority weeds.
The successful applicant will be part of the Natural Resource Management team which aims to protect and maintain Council's natural resources including creeks and bushlands. The position is required to meet the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015, adhering to functions of the "Local Control Authority" and reasonable direction from Fairfield City Council. Fairfield City Council administers the position with funds from the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) with funding under the NSW Weeds Action Program.
You will have demonstrated knowledge of Biosecurity legislation, including identification of weeds, weed control strategy and integrated weed Management techniques. You will also have established communication, organisational, and IT skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines and to balance competing priorities.

ABOUT YOU:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Biosecurity legislation, including identification of weeds, weed control strategy and integrated weed Management techniques
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills
- Sound organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work commitments in an effective manner
- Intermediate computer software skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
DESIRABLE:
- Experience with field-based Mapping (Sydney Weed APP) or similar, and generation of reports
- Experience working as a weed industry professional such as a Weeds Officer or Bush Regenerator
SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Temporary part-time position for a period of 12 months, working 21 hours per week, with an opportunity to extend subject to grant funds.
- This position is a Grade 4 with a commencing annualised salary range of $45,055.92 p.a. (pro rata) with progression to $52,776.36 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, plus 11.5% Super
