About the Department
An agency charged with the responsibility for protecting Australia's natural resources and to develop and implement policies and programs that ensure Australia's agricultural, fisheries, food and forestry industries remained competitive, profitable and sustainable.
The Job
The job is based in a call centre environment (office-based work) and the main duties of a Biosecurity Officer in the Client Contact Group may include but are not limited to:
- Responding to client enquiries via telephone and email, providing accurate and timely advice to the importing community and to departmental enquiries more broadly.
- Processing inspection booking requests using departmental systems.
- Managing the workflow and resourcing for inspection activities.
- Disseminate and respond to electronic mail from the team generic inbox in a timely manner.
- Liaising with clients and other government agencies, providing complex and technical advice as necessary.
- Supporting import and export conditions and enquiry workflows by working in partnership with program areas and escalating matters when appropriate Assist team leaders and supervisors to monitor operations and service delivery.
- Identifying trends in biosecurity risks and escalating these to assist in targeting intelligence and risk-based activities.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to form views, provide advice and make effective evidence-based regulatory decisions in accordance with legislation, policies, and procedures.
- The ability to use initiative and work independently to meet operational demands while navigating through changing priorities.
- The ability to work effectively and safely to achieve sound outcomes in a fast paced and challenging environment.
- The ability to problem-solve and appropriately escalate sensitive matters in a timely manner.
- The ability to use risk management tools and techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively liaise with peers, management, and stakeholders.
- Strong digital literacy skills to confidently learn and utilise the department's systems and devices.
- The ability to contribute to, promote and implement business change with a regulatory focus.
These are full time APS4 Non-Ongoing positions where you will be employed directly by the department.
