About the Faculty and Discipline

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine is committed to shaping professionals distinguished by their superior scientific and clinical skills, as well as their ethics, compassion and humanity. Programs are offered in a range of scientific and health disciplines, including Medicine, Biomedical Science, Exercise and Sports Science, Health Sciences, Healthcare Innovations, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. Each of these disciplines is underpinned by an active research program and the Faculty hosts a number of major research centres including the internationally renowned Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare. The Faculty has recently established the Bond University Health and Wellness Clinic, an interdisciplinary and holistic Allied Health Service to provide accessible and valuable care to the community.

The Faculty is establishing a new Discipline of Speech Pathology in order to contribute to the Speech Pathology profession through an innovative program that would emphasise skills for both public and private practice; the program will also have a strong research component. The program would be synergistic with the existing Allied Health disciplines, expand our scope for interprofessional learning and research and also contribute to the range of services available at the Bond University Health and Wellness Clinic. The intent is to offer a Master of Speech Pathology extended AQF Level 9 program accredited by Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) for professional recognition as a Speech Pathologist.

About the Position

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape a new discipline within Bond University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine and make a lasting impact on the Speech Pathology profession and workforce. The Professor/Associate Professor of Speech Pathology is a senior leadership role, responsible for establishing and developing the Speech Pathology discipline and leading the Master of Speech Pathology and Professional Doctorate programs. This position is offered on a continuing basis and includes a 5-year appointment as Foundation Head of Speech Pathology.

The role provides strategic leadership in curriculum development, accreditation, and academic staffing, ensuring alignment with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) standards. Working closely with the Executive Dean and Faculty leadership, the position will recruit and mentor academic staff, foster industry partnerships, and oversee marketing and resource procurement for the successful delivery of the programs. In keeping with a senior academic position, the role is expected to drive research in Speech Pathology, securing funding, mentoring research students, and contributing at both national and international levels.

This is a unique opportunity to lead an innovative program, develop strong interdisciplinary collaborations, and contribute to the future of Speech Pathology education and practice.

About the Person

The ideal candidate will have:

A PhD in Speech Pathology; and

Full certification as a Speech Pathologist with Speech Pathology Australia (or be eligible to apply)

They will demonstrate academic leadership, including leading research projects, mentoring and developing junior staff, and drive the ongoing development of curriculum and accreditation outcomes. Within this over-arching responsibility, it is expected that the individual will work with the Executive Dean and heads of relevant research centres and programs to:

Provide leadership for ongoing development and accreditation of the Speech Pathology suite of programs.

Demonstrated academic leadership experience, including mentoring staff and leading research projects.

Provide leadership in contemporary curriculum, assessment, resource, program and subject design.

Lead research activities with a focus on those relevant to Speech Pathology including contributing to mentorship of junior staff and supervision of research students.

Engage with key providers in the sector including speech pathology practitioners to build effective working relationships and establish student placement opportunities.

Coordinate and teach into relevant subjects within the Speech Pathology programs.

In addition to these qualifications, the role requires a leader who is passionate about advancing Speech Pathology education and research, with the vision to build a world-class program at Bond University.
