At the City of Melbourne, we’re working together for a healthier, more inclusive city. Our Community Wellbeing Branch delivers a wide range of community-focused services—from maternal and child health to youth, aged care, and family support—ensuring all Melburnians can access the care and opportunities they need to thrive.
As part of this branch, our Health Team plays a vital role in protecting and promoting public health.
We identify and monitor health risks, inspect businesses to ensure compliance with legislation, and respond to public health incidents, all while keeping community wellbeing at the core.
We’re seeking an experienced and committed Environmental Health Officer to join one of our three regulatory teams.
You’ll help uphold public and environmental health standards while providing excellent service and professional advice to businesses and community members.
In this role, you will:
Conduct inspections and compliance assessments across food, water, and public health premises.
Investigate health complaints and collect samples for analysis.
Assess and monitor food safety programs for legislative compliance.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of inspections and activities.
Contribute to council health programs, policies and emergency response efforts.
Provide expert advice on regulatory requirements and public health best practices.
You’ll be part of a skilled, supportive team including Team Leaders, Senior EHOs, and Environmental Health Technicians—all dedicated to building a cleaner, safer, and more liveable Melbourne.

Selection Criteria ( What you will bring..)

Proven ability to work as an effective team member, input into team processes, actively and positively contribute to team goals, and demonstrate positive behaviours and attitudes within the team environment.
Demonstrated ability to apply relevant legislation and corporate procedures and policies.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with all levels of staff, the general public, and commercial and professional stakeholders.
Possession of a current, full Victorian driver’s license.
Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent including eligibility to be a member of Environmental Health Australia.
