About Us?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

IUIH established the Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS) in 2011 as a strategic response to the significant growth and geographic dispersion of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Moreton Bay area.

About the Role?

The primary purpose of the Wellbeing Support Worker is to support the Social Health team, specifically by providing support and assistance to clients in accessing available holistic health and social health services in the Moreton Bay region. There are multiple positions on offer, with part or full time flexibility.

This includes effective liaison with local stakeholders, identifying barriers to access, implementing practical solutions, and providing practical assistance to identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to manage mental health and wellbeing needs.

The role will be based at the Strathpine clinic, with responsibilities across both the Strathpine and Margate clinic locations primarily. In this position, you will

  • Provide culturally appropriate, time limited social support services in accordance with Client directed goals
  • Work closely alongside our social health care coordinator and multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive support to our clients on their journey to wellness.
  • Support and assist clients attending GP, Allied Health, and other specialist appointments.
  • Support and assist clients with non-health-specific needs such as Centrelink, employment, and other psycho-social needs.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review of individual goals and participate in the provision and review of clinical practices, including Case conferencing with relevant parties, Team meetings and Clinical review meetings.
  • Establish effective and continuous cooperative working relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous community organisations relevant to your client's needs

About You?

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Criminal History Check
  • Current QLD Blue Card – working with children Check (Prior to commencement)

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a direct support capacity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
