Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we stand together with anyone who needs us, for as long as they need us. Find out more about us and our purpose.

Your Opportunity
If you're someone who is deeply committed to supporting individuals impacted by family and domestic violence, this opportunity could be the right fit for you. As a Safe Steps Case Manager, you will be working directly with people who are experiencing or at risk of family violence, providing them with specialised, compassionate, and practical support during what is a very challenging time for them.

This is a professional role that calls for resilience, empathy, and sound judgement. You will be managing complex cases, often making decisions in situations where the path forward isn't always clear. While you will be supported by a strong framework and broader team, there is room for initiative and autonomy in your day-to-day work.

This is an on-site position based in Geraldton. You will connect with clients through face-to-face office appointments, local home visits, and collaborative work with service providers both locally and across the region. This a role that blends direct client work with community engagement, advocacy, and the opportunity to help shape longer-term change. Ongoing professional development, peer support, and mentoring are all part of what we offer, helping you to grow and make a meaningful difference every day.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver client-centred case management by developing, implementing, and regularly reviewing individualised case and safety plans, ensuring they are trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and aligned with client goals.
  • Conduct intake assessments and manage referrals from CRS, DCP, and self-referrals, including paperwork, eligibility checks, and initial risk and needs assessments.
  • Provide practical psychosocial support and advocacy, helping clients navigate housing, safety, and mental health challenges by connecting them with appropriate external services and supports.
  • Build sustainable relationships with clients, families, and stakeholders (e.g., Aboriginal services, child protection, youth services), contributing to collaborative case management and positive client outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation including case notes, reports, data entry, and correspondence in accordance with privacy legislation and organisational policy.
  • Facilitate group education and information sessions and support the development of client capacity to manage their own supports and transitions to independence.
  • Contribute to service improvement through participation in training, mentoring junior staff, inter-agency meetings, and regional collaboration with Pilbara teams delivering the same service.

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field (degree or diploma), with a minimum of two years' experience in a similar role supporting vulnerable populations.
  • Strong case management skills and demonstrated experience working with individuals affected by family and domestic violence, including intake, planning, intervention, and review processes.
  • Cultural competency and the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, and communities.
  • Excellent communication, engagement, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, convey complex information clearly, and adapt to diverse audiences.
  • Well-developed administrative and reporting skills, including accurate data entry, record keeping, and proficiency in using client management systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a diverse caseload, prioritise competing demands, and respond flexibly to complex or ambiguous situations.
  • Essential requirements include a current full driver's licence, current First Aid certificate, and the ability to undertake outreach and home visits as part of service delivery.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Your Benefits
To ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and celebrated, we provide a range of employee benefits including:

  • Rewarding work - every day you know you're making a real difference
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay)
