About the organisation
Pika Wiya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is an exciting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service which offers comprehensive primary health, social support and training services to Aboriginal people in Port Augusta, with Clinics located at Dartmouth Street in Port Augusta, Davenport, Copley and Nepabunna communities and provides services to other areas within our catchment area. Our health service provides a culturally appropriate preventative and curative health service to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Purpose of the role
The successful applicant will
Be responsible for the legal compliance of all legislative requirements specific to the operations of the Clinic and Outreach areas and the Clinic Staff.
Be responsible for the effective and efficient management of operations and staff and utilisation of resources.
Provide leadership in all aspects of the clinical operations, management of staff and in working collaboratively across PWHS to improve service delivery and clinical outcomes.
Manage and ensure staff undertaken mandatory and additional training as required by their profession and individually to maintain their professional registration.
Coordinate safe and effective delivery of clinical services to the Aboriginal Community in the PWHSAC Catchment Area and in the development of strategies that are responsive to the changing demands and the needs of a diverse Aboriginal Community.
Manage the principles of continuous quality improvement in line with policies and procedures and working in collaboration with Practice Manager, Medical Director and Grants Management & Policy Coordinator.
Manage, provide oversight and support the clinical accreditation processes, in collaboration with Medical Director and Practice Manager.
The Clinic Manager reports directly to the CEO and will have line management responsibility for clinic staff. The position will lead, manage, oversight and supervise all clinical staff. The role will also strengthen clinic governance through working collaboratively across PWHS and through regular meetings with Doctors, Clinic Staff and Practice Manager and Team to ensure smooth clinical operations.
Key accountabilities
The Clinic Manager will contribute towards the effective operation of the health service by:
Leading, managing, overseeing the operations of PWHSAC clinics Davenport, Copley and Nepabunna with limited direction in collaboration with Medical Director, GP’s, RN’s and Practice Manager.
In collaboration with Practice Manager, Medical Director, leading, monitoring, implementing, managing and maintaining strategies that achieve RACGP accreditation.
Monitoring and setting work priorities, work standards and workloads of clinical staff.
Maintaining internal and external communication including being the point of contact for the clinics in conjunction with the CEO and senior executives.
Ensuring cultural sensitivity is maintained by attending and contributing to learning in diversity of cultural awareness and cross-cultural training, with a frequency to be determined as appropriate by the organisation.
Actively supporting and contributing to risk management by maintaining an awareness of the risks relating to their area of responsibility and accountability including the identification and reporting of such risks.
Essential
Education/Qualifications
Tertiary (formal) clinical qualifications in the areas of Nursing, Allied Health with the appropriate tertiary credentials, Primary Health Care, health or related field.
Registered with AHPRA.
Holds a current About Giving Vaccines (AGV) qualification (or equivalent) or ability to obtain.
Experience
Demonstrated ability in providing clinical leadership and a desire to work strategically with a multidisciplinary team to bring about positive change in health outcomes.
Experience of working within an Aboriginal Primary Health Care Setting, Aboriginal Community Control Health Service or Primary and Tertiary Health Sectors.
Extensive working knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Scheme and the application to an Aboriginal Primary Health Care clinical setting.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people in a way which displays empathy and cultural understanding and sensitivity.
Experience in developing effective working relationships and partnerships across government and non-government department and community groups.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of Aboriginal Primary Health Care Principles as they apply within a clinical setting.
Knowledge of issues and priorities in the planning of health services to Aboriginal communities.
Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, and contemporary issues.
Broad clinical experience in primary health care including skills in planning, coordinating and decision making within a clinical setting.
Proven experience in coordinating and supervising clinical staff.
Knowledge of Aboriginal specific and mainstream Aboriginal service units and relevant human services resources.
