We are a 34 bed Addiction and Recovery Accredited Hospital, operating under the abstinence-based, trauma informed model of care, utilising tools, and practices from the Minnesota Model. We are set apart by our understanding of addiction as the mind’s way of coping with developmental, emotional conflicts and trauma.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking to grow our nursing staff team due to consistent growth within our program and require highly skilled and motivated Registered Nurses or Registered Psychiatric Nurse who wish to work in an innovative residential AOD program working with a strong and highly skilled multidisciplinary team of professionals caring for up to 34 inpatients and 15-20 outpatients a day.

Our nursing team are pro-active in guidance, support, and direction to our voluntary clients. They coordinate client admission, medication management, client behaviours and client assessment throughout their shifts. The successful applicant will have clear communication, a knowledge of AOD or mental health, patient management, and general nursing expertise.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering direct and comprehensive nursing care and individual case management to residents, including nursing assessment and treatment. In addition, the Registered Nurse is a role model and leader with respect to clinical practice.

· Conduct nursing risk assessments, noting any pre-existing medical conditions and their treatment plan and monitor these conditions throughout the residents' stay.

· Contribute and participate in admissions, intake and discharge review and process, with reference to Physical Health and Mental Health as Life Domains.

· Contribute to the development of client individual treatment and recovery plans, involving nominated significant others and family where relevant.

· Liaise with GP during admission and any other allied health professionals as required.

· Administer medications according to the prescriptions and orders on the medication charts, observing the clinical features and ensuring the medications are having the desired effect.

· Maintain comprehensive client documentation and case notes, ensuring accuracy and compliance and capturing relevant details for analysis.

· Evaluate responses to treatment and report to the treating doctor or registered nurse, any new information, changes in condition, or concerns regarding vital signs and withdrawal symptoms, which might indicate the need for a review of the treatment plan.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential Criteria

· Expertise and skill in all general nurse practices – medications, assessment, observation, and dressings

· Bachelor’s degree in nursing & current registration as Registered Nurse (Division 1) within the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

· Strong assessment and management of both physical and psychological deterioration

· Strong verbal, written and communication skills to safely manage and plan for our vulnerable clients.

· Exceptional interpersonal skills with a natural ability to communicate effectively to a diverse group of people.

· Flexibility across all shifts, 7 days a week.

· A considerate, open, honest, and pro-active attitude toward professional development, growth, and opportunities within the organisation.

Desirable Criteria

· Knowledge or experience in AOD and the 12-Step programs.

· Experience working within the alcohol and drug sector or mental health, with an understanding of AOD patients with complex needs.

· Demonstrated experience in conducting drug and alcohol withdrawal and physical assessments.

· Knowledge of contemporary standards and evidence-based practice and interventions in AOD context.

· Certificate IV in AOD or willingness to complete an AOD Skillset.
