Salary from $109,874.80 to $118,448.92 p.a. + 11.5% Superannuation (Grade J)
This is a 3 year Fixed-term Contract.

About the role
The Senior Traffic Engineer will support the Traffic and Transport Team Leader in the management of road safety, traffic, public and active transport and parking management of the road transport system under the car and control of Willoughby City Council.
You will help to maximise safety, efficient and reliable movement, access and amenity of all road transport users.
What you’ll be doing:
Undertake complex transport, parking and traffic studies resulting in the preparation of area, route and link strategies, project proposals, option analysis and business cases.
Develop and deliver projects for Council’s traffic management and road safety program including Local Area Transport Management plans, Pedestrian Access Mobility Plans, Street parking management, Willoughby Cycling Strategy and Action Plan; Walking Strategy and Action Plan and Integrated Transport Strategy (ITS 2036) priorities.
Prepare traffic reports for the Traffic Committee and undertake investigation and implementation of actions arising from that Committee.
Engage external consultants and contractors by preparing transport planning briefs, calling quotations, letting tenders, conducting negotiations and project managing outcomes.
Coach, mentor, and motivate team members, to ensure that projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget, risk management and quality standards.
Provide specialist technical advice and assistance in traffic engineering, transport planning, and road safety to other Council officers; including safety programs, parking management, development applications, and active transport program.
Provide customer centric approach, be responsive; sensitive to customer needs & expectation; accountable for investigations, planning, concept development, and stakeholder engagement; implementation and administration of traffic and parking solutions to deliver sustainable transportation outcomes for the City.
Work collaboratively with other internal & external stakeholders, to provide timely and considered responses to customer and stakeholder issues.
Lead significant and complex transport infrastructure projects and will likely be responsible for multiple concurrent projects.
Requirements
Tertiary degree qualifications in traffic engineering or equivalent and demonstrated significant experience in the design and delivery of parking management, active transport and traffic management projects
Extensive knowledge of contemporary transport design and creating a safe, connected and accessible transport system within a multi-modal urban transport system
Demonstrated experience in parking management and transport projects with a track record in delivering projects in an environment of balancing complex issues and competing priorities
Demonstrated knowledge of infrastructure programs and project management with a focus on meeting key program budgets and project deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work in teams and communicate effectively with the community, stakeholders, staff, industry and other government organisations
Demonstrated a strong customer centric approach - be responsive; sensitive to customer needs & expectation; communicate; accountable for investigations, planning, concept development, and stakeholder engagement; implementation and administration of traffic and parking solutions to deliver sustainable transportation outcomes
Sound communications skills with the ability to lead projects of varying scale and complexity, including technical, commercial, people, client and stakeholder management
Proven ability to set priorities, plan project tasks, coordinate with other officers and/or consultants and contractors to achieve project objectives within specified timeframes
Developed analytical and lateral thinking skills and the ability to take the initiative, drive changes and implement innovations
A high level of verbal and written communication skills in the preparation of reports, plans and projects and responding to community issues
Class C NSW Drivers Licence.
