NT Health’s Alcohol and Other Drug Services Central Australia (ADSCA) is a specialist, multi-disciplinary service that provides treatment and support to individuals, families and communities in the areas of alcohol and other drugs (AOD), mental health (MH) and social emotional wellbeing (SEWB).

Currently ADSCA has vacancies for experienced Social Workers in both Alice Springs and Yuendumu locations as Community Counsellors. These positions are federally funded until the end of June 2025 when additional funding is expected.

As a Community Counsellor (P3) your primary objective is to provide holistic, trauma-informed, evidence based, clinical counselling and support, to patients in remote communities utilising a social emotional wellbeing framework.

Your key duties include; managing a complex caseload, undertaking effective case management and engaging with remote communities to build trusted relationships and resolve potential conflicts. You will also have the opportunity to participate in and facilitate AOD education and professional development for RAOD Workers and Public Health Care staff.

Ideally, you will be an accomplished Social Worker or Psychologist looking for an opportunity to experience supporting remote Aboriginal communities and developing sustainable solutions that improve the health and wellbeing of its members.

To be successful you need to be an accredited Social Worker with recognised qualifications in Social Work or Psychology and eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Australian Psychological Society (APS), Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or a Counsellor with recognised qualifications at a post graduate level and eligibility for membership of a peak counselling body.

Demonstrated experience in AOD and/or MH and social emotional cultural wellbeing assessment, treatment and therapeutic support supported by a strong understanding of the neurobiology and impact of trauma, and community engagement.
