Why your role matters

As the Manager, Admissions Operations you will be responsible for the operational management of applications and admissions across UNSW. This includes managing, motivating, training and developing three teams who are responsible for admission applications within their portfolio of faculties. Your day to day duties will include:

  • Provide strong leadership, coaching and mentoring to a team of direct and indirect reports within an environment that promotes respect, accountability, quality service and facilities, and fosters initiative and innovation.
  • Plan, supervise and monitor the workload of the team daily and over the longer term (yearly cycle) to ensure adequate resources are available to meet agreed targets, and redistribute workload or staff between teams as necessary to meet these.
  • Mentor Admission Team Leaders to ensure selection decisions are fair, consistent, transparent and in line with University policy and external regulations.
  • Drive and maintain strong relationships and networks across the university and the sector, particularly with key stakeholders within Student Services and Systems, UNSW Faculties, the Division of External Relations and UNSW Global.
  • Provide leadership to the Admissions Officers regarding direct applications, to ensure the Admissions Office meets all service level agreements regarding turnaround times on application processing and admissions enquiry management.
  • Ensure assessment of applicants’ eligibility to UNSW, including evaluation of qualifications and English language competence, is completed accurately and consistently across all faculty teams.
  • Manage escalated and highly complex student cases.

About You:

  • A relevant degree with extensive experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading and managing high performing and effective teams.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and implement business improvement initiatives to achieve goals.
  • High-level capacity to implement change in a complex work environment. • Highly developed managerial skills demonstrated in a high-volume environment with critical deadlines.
  • Proven capacity to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of admissions within the higher education sector.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, to think strategically and to adopt an active approach to problem solving.
  • Proven collaborative and team-oriented approach, with ability to quickly establish and maintain a high level of personal and professional credibility at a senior management level and with the wider team.
  • Ability and capacity to direct and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the safety management system.
